Just Added: Stuck in the Middle

Title: Stuck in the Middle: Seventeen Comics from An Unpleasant Age

Author: Ariel Schrag (editor)

Genre/Format: Graphic Novel

Summary: A very unscientific poll recently revealed that 99.9% of all people who attended middle school hated it. Fortunately, some of those people have grown up to be clever and talented comic artists, with an important message to share: Everyone can survive middle school! Edited by underground comics icon Ariel Schrag, this anthology of illustrated tales about the agonies and triumphs of seventh and eight grade features some of America’s leading graphic novelists, including Daniel Clowes, Joe Matt, Lauren Weinstein, and Ariel herself. With a sense of humor as refreshing as it is bitingly honest, seventeen artists share their stories of first love, bullying, zits, and all the things that make middle school the worst years of our lives.

Ms. Evans says: While I love working in a middle school, I hated being a student in one myself. I think most all grown-ups will tell you the same thing. Sure there were some good times, but it's a confusing, emotional time period. Here's 17 authors and artists to tell you that while you may feel lonely, you're not alone.

This story by talented manga artist Misako Rocks! has all the irresistible drama and humor of first love.

Mrs. Evans says: This is a book that called to me off the shelf. For some reason I'm generally not interested in romance stories told via text. But I love the same story told manga style! Something about seeing the emotions in their faces, I just get sucked in. This is a fun story that is slightly reminiscent of one of my favorite series, Boys Over Flowers.
